Long Term Substitute Job Description

Position: Long Term Substitute, Grade 4

Type of Position: Long Term Substitute, by contract

Reports to: Principal

Evaluated By: Written evaluation by Principal

Primary Objective: Provide students with an exemplary elementary education and enduring values, rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Instructional:

1. Effectively teaches the integrated approach to learning.

2. Uses valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals and affect student learning.

3. Develops lessons with clear objectives and essential questions that align with unit plans and curriculum.

4. Completes a detailed weekly lesson plan, keeps Unit Binders current with day-by-day notes, establishes alternate plans when necessary, and prepares substitute plans as needed.

4. Employs a variety of instructional aids, methods and materials which are aimed at reaching the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.

5. Differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs of learners.

7. Communicates goals and objectives to students, docents and parents.

8. Assigns homework according to Parent/Student Handbook guidelines, assesses homework in a timely manner, and guides students in developing quality work habits.

8. Assigns Unit Projects appropriately to enhance unit study and growth in independent learning. Assigns rubrics/guidelines and expectations as appropriate. Varies project assignments using a variety of modalities.

9. Keeps students, parents and administration adequately informed of student progress. Gives sufficient notice of unsatisfactory performance as soon as it is recognized.

Non-Instructional:

1. Maintains proper discipline in the classroom and on school premises in accordance with policies and rules established by the school.

2. Implements procedures to ensure effective operation of the classroom such as routines for morning arrival, snack & lunch time, turning in work, etc.

3. Cooperates with the Board of Trustless and administration to implement all policies, procedures and directives.

4. Communicates to students and parents using a unit letter and weekly updates.

6. Maintains a physical classroom that is attractive, well-organized and clean by prominently displaying relevant unit material/projects and moral/scriptural material.

7. Responds within 24 hours to phone calls and emails from parents.

Professional:

1. Maintains a personal appearance which is a role model for students, exhibiting cleanliness, modesty and good taste.

2. Uses correct grammar in written and oral communications.

3. Develops and maintains a good rapport with students, parents and staff in an effort to promote a positive learning environment.

4. Recognizes the need for positive public relations. Promotes the school in a favorable and professional manner.

5. Actively participates in scheduled staff and development meetings.

8. Responds to constructive criticism and concerns raised by the administration, colleagues and parents.

9. Demonstrates dependability and punctuality.

10. Works well with other staff members by being supportive and collaborative.

Personal:

1. Meets daily stress with emotional stability and optimism.

2. Demonstrates the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, a positive attitude and loyalty.

Spiritual:

1. Demonstrates spirituality through student interaction by providing opportunities for students to receive God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.

2. Effectively integrate a Christian worldview through the use of Biblical principles and a strong philosophy of Christian Education throughout the curriculum.

3. Proactively use peace-making principles in helping students deal with conflict.

4. Models a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ in speech, actions and attitudes, which contributes to the spiritual atmosphere of the school.

 


 

Potential Teaching Position -- Possible opening for an elementary school teacher for the 2020-21 school year. We plan to open in person following CDC guidelines. Hours are from 8 -3:15 with occasional evening activities such as curriculum night. Approximate starting salary around $23,000. Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Custodian -- Part-time custodian needed , 2-3 hours afternoon or evening on school days.  Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with any questions.

 

Health and Safety Aide -- Hours approximately 8:15-3:15 during school days. The Health and Safety Aide will assist staff in such tasks as taking and logging contactless temperatures, cleaning touch points, monitoring students during lunch and other times, and other tasks related to the daily curriculum and CDC and DOH guidelines. Substitute Teachers -- Hours are from 8AM-3:15 PM.  The pay is $80.00/day or $10/hour for partial days.  We offer daily specials (giving you a 40 minute break ), very small class sizes, a  30 -minute lunch, and supportive colleagues.

 

Substitute Office Staff -- Hours are from 8 AM- 3:15.  Office staff substitutes will  complete such tasks as answering phones, completing  basic Office 365 activities,  checking in  students,  and assisting in the lunch room and recess.  Pay is $8/hour for partial days and $65/day.

6. Final decision by the Principal / Approval from School Board

  • Act 151 - Department of Human Services Child Abuse Criminal History Clearance
  • Act 34 - Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check
  • Act 141 - Federal Criminal History Record Information & Fingerprinting
  • Act 168 - Employment History Review (if hired applicant will receive paperwork)
